We changed our name to let everyone know we provide all sorts of chimney services, not just sweeps!!
It’s that time of year again, chimney swifts have arrived in our area. If you do not have a cap on your flue or are not sure, give us a call. The swifts are federally protected and can not be removed. Once they leave to head back South in the Fall, we can install a cap to make sure they don’t return to your flue next year. Helpful tips:
Book after you are done burning or by July to beat the fall rush
Our employees are Chimney Sweeps. The majority are off-duty or retired firefighters, however their main source of knowledge in regards to your chimney and fireplace is the chimney sweep training.
We book in one hour appointments because it usually takes about 45 minutes for an appointment. In order to keep such a schedule, we need you to be available up to an hour before and after your appointment time for the Sweeps arrival, i.e. 10am appointment. They could arrive between 9 – 11am.
During the month of October, we will be donating part of our proceeds to Sweep Away Cancer. You can find out more information on their website https://www.sweepawaycancer.com/
If you would like to donate to the cause, you can give it to your sweeps. Cash, check or Zelle are accepted forms of donation. If making a separate donation, please indicate that it is for Sweep Away Cancer, checks can be made out to Sweep Away Cancer.
Types of Fireplaces
Type of use
Wood Burning – this type of fireplace is where you burn real wood or Duraflame logs and can have a gas log lighter to pre-heat the fireplace and start the wood.
Gas Logs – this type of fireplace is where you have different types of vented and non-vented logs that are run on gas.
DirectVent – this type of fireplace is a self-contained unit that has a single pane of glass over the front and is usually controlled by a switch on the wall or a remote. We recommend calling A Cozy Fireplace Warrenville at 630-836-0606 for service or cleaning.
Type of Construction
The above pictures are to help you identify what type of fire place you have.
Masonry fireplaces have a brick/stone exterior and a all brick interior. They have a rectangle damper door.
Pre-fab fireplaces usually have a siding or stucco exterior and a metal surrounding frame on the interior firebox area. They have a round ( or sometimes square) damper door.
Chimney Cap vs Chimney Chase Cover
We can replace or reinstall chimney flue caps. We can also patch minor cracks in your concrete crown on a brick fireplace. If there is more than minor cracks in the concrete crown or we feel it needs to be replaced, we will refer you to a mason. Chimney chase covers would need to be replaced if damaged and we refer you to A Cozy Fireplace in Warrenville 630-836-0606.
FireGuard & ChamberGuard
The FireGuard system is specifically designed to correct open mortar joints, misaligned flue liners, and fractures within flue liners. FireGuard is the only certified ceramic resurfacing and mortar joint repair system of it’s kind. Click here for more information on this service.
We are now using rotary sweeping with RodStation equipment. We also purchased their HD camera system for each van so we can scan the inside of your smoke chamber and flue tiles to make sure there is no damage that could be a hazard. We always have your safety on our minds and this new equipment will help us with that.
